Location of Vila do Gin - Parque Temático Black Pig

Vila do Gin - Parque Temático Black Pig

gin made in the montado, not in an industrial warehouse

Black pigs wandering between cork oaks, a copper still at work and a shaded showroom with cocktails. This is the setting of Vila do Gin, which bills itself as the world's first gin theme park, set on an Alentejo estate on the outskirts of Santiago do Cacém.

Black Pig produces here by hand, with bottles labelled and filled manually. The botanicals that go into the gin grow on the estate itself, and you can walk through it on the Trilho dos Botânicos to understand what ends up inside each bottle. The connection between the land and the product isn't marketing: it's literally what you see around you.

The animal side isn't scenography. Dwarf goats, donkeys, sheep and the black pigs that give the brand its name live on the grounds. If you come with kids, there's a playground of over a thousand square metres in the middle of all this. If you come without, the showroom under the cork oaks has a cocktail menu and a specific time of day, the Golden Hour, when the light of the Alentejo montado falls in a way that justifies standing still with a glass in your hand.

distillery with a visit included

Production runs in a closed cycle, from botanical to bottle, and you can follow each stage on a guided tour. The copper still is at the centre of everything, and the visit explains the botanical blends that resulted in what the brand calls the most awarded gin in Europe.

The space also has a Gin Safari and guided experiences for those who want to go beyond tasting. It's not a static museum: the distillery is working and you see that happening.
