Praia Fluvial Sandomil

where the mountain comes down to you

There's a spot in the valley where the river runs cold even in August. The water comes from above, from the Serra da Estrela, and doesn't lose its character on the way down. When you reach the Praia Fluvial de Sandomil, you feel it in the first few metres in the water.

The place sits in the landscape as if it had always been there. Rocks, dense vegetation, the sound of the current. Nothing here was built to impress, and maybe that's why it does.

The mountains you see in the background aren't decoration. They're what feeds the river, what keeps this valley, what holds the water temperature at that point where you actually cool down. The Mondego rises nearby, and some of that water passes through here before heading to Coimbra.

Sandomil is a short distance from Seia, but feels like another world. The kind of place you come back to the following year without needing to explain why.
