Parque Aquático de Amarante

the biggest mountain water park in the iberian peninsula, and it's not just talk

It sits in Fregim, right next to the Tâmega river, wedged into a landscape of mountains and green that isn't the typical backdrop for a water park. The altitude and the geographical context are what make the Parque Aquático de Amarante different from the others: you're sliding down slides with mountains around you, not plains or coast as the backdrop.

It opened in 1994 and was the first water park in the North of the country. Today it's part of a larger complex, the Tamega Clube, with more than 44 thousand square metres, rural tourism houses, a gym and a wave pool. The attractions have piled up over the years: Monster, Lotus, Vertigem, Turbolance, Fast Mountain, multiple and fast lanes, among others.

Spain knows about it too. The classification of biggest mountain water park in the Iberian Peninsula isn't just local marketing, it's the reference that gets families to cross the border to come here.
