theme park with five worlds and pools, in penafiel
Penafiel isn't where you'd expect to find a park with a rollercoaster, water slides and bumper boats. Magikland sits there, a short hop from Porto, and it's the only park of this scale in the Entre Douro e Sousa area.
The park is split into five themed areas with personalities of their own: Africa, the World of Confusion, the Medieval Village, the Pirate Refuge and the Far-West. Each zone has its own mechanical rides and its own pools. It's not all thrown together into a generic space: there's a route logic, and you can tell where you are by the scenery around you.
On the water side, you've got the Magik Splash, the Pirate Lagoon, the Galleon Lake, the Magikpool, the Bumper Boats and the Magik Slide. For smaller kids there's the Magik Kids Slide. The Ghost Castle and the Ferris Wheel sit in the medieval zone and give you a different perspective on the whole park.
It's open on Sundays, which changes the profile of who turns up: families from greater Porto making the most of the weekend without needing a long trip, and you can feel it in the atmosphere. Showing up early makes a difference.
