Aigra Nova

the aigra with people, livestock and three streets

Aigra Nova has three streets. It's small, sits 12 kilometres from Góis and is part of a cluster of four villages from the municipality in the Aldeias do Xisto network (Comareira, Pena, Aigra Velha and this one). A spring passes through, the climate is mild, and that's all you need to know to understand why this one didn't die.

What sets it apart from the other Aldeias do Xisto in the Lousã area is being alive in the literal sense. There's an ecomuseum in the village, with nuclei spread across the houses, and also vegetable gardens, livestock and donkeys in the surrounding land. It's not a village turned into a museum for visitors; it's a village where people still work the land.

Leave the ecomuseum understanding what you see outside: why this village has a spring, pastures and people working the land, while Aigra Velha up on the ridge has only one registered inhabitant. Do both in the same day -- everything's just a few kilometres apart.
