between two rivers, in the northernmost corner
Two rivers meet here: the Mente and the Baceiro join their waters right next to the village of França, in a confluence you won't find anywhere else in the region. This isn't a spot for bathers lined up on towels: it's a genuine corner of Trás-os-Montes, the right size for anyone who wants water without the crowd.
Praia Fluvial de França sits in the municipality of Bragança but you feel like you're in a world apart. The village keeps its transmontano character, and the valley closes in with dense riverbank vegetation on both sides. Getting there is already part of the experience: the road drops down through the interior of the Mirandês plateau, and the contrast between the dry uplands and the valley with water is immediate.
What you have here is a functional support area without any excess, set in a landscape that wasn't tamed to please anyone. The confluence of the two rivers creates different currents depending on where you go in, which completely changes how the water feels. Dive in on the right side, and ask someone who's been there which one that is.
