Praia Fluvial Zaboeira

water frozen in time, schist all around

There are places where you arrive and wonder how nobody talks about this. Zaboeira is one of them. A river beach tucked into the heart of the Vila de Rei municipality, surrounded by dense vegetation and schist rock that warms in the afternoon sun.

The water is cold and transparent. The river bed tells you exactly where you can go. No crowd fighting for towel space, no background music drowning out the sound of the current. What there is is quality silence, the kind that only the interior of Portugal can offer.

Vila de Rei is in the centre of the country, in an area where the Zêzere and its tributaries cut the territory in half. Zaboeira fits into that logic of water hidden between hills, accessible to those who know how to look. You come, you get wet, you stay longer than you planned.
