Praia Fluvial Bostelim

still water, properly calm, in the heart of the country

There's a spot in Vila de Rei where the river barely moves and the silence has texture. It isn't a sea beach, there are no waves, no show. There's sand, there's water, there are trees around you, and there's the feeling that you found something before anyone had a chance to ruin it.

Praia do Bostelim sits in a landscape that's typical of the inland centre of the country: schist, dense vegetation, water coming from streams that don't appear on tourist maps. What makes it here isn't the passing summer visitor, it's those who actually wanted to come.

The river isn't in a hurry and you don't need to be either. Get in slowly, let your body adjust, stay. Around it there are walks, boardwalks at other points in the municipality, and the feeling that the Médio Tejo has more to tell than any guidebook has ever written.

what you'll find

  • river sand, not the postcard kind
  • calm water, good for those who don't want waves or crowds
  • natural shade on the banks
  • access to nearby camping for those who want to stay more than a day
