Praia Fluvial do Rabaçal

on the border of two districts, by the Rabaçal

The beach sits on the right bank of the river Rabaçal, in Possacos, at a point where the territory of Vila Real touches that of Bragança. That hinge position isn't a decorative detail: it gives the place a scale and a silence that river beaches within a single district rarely have.

The sand is extensive by transmontano standards, and the wooden boardwalks reach right to the river bed, which means there's none of the usual rough scramble between the car and the water. Praia Fluvial do Rabaçal has accessibility certification, with reserved parking and barrier-free routes down to the bathing area.

The spot is also the starting point of the three routes of the Ecovia do Rabaçal, which means you can come in by the water in the morning and leave on foot through the valley in the afternoon. The campsite is right next door, which turns this less into a day destination and more into a base to stay around Valpaços for a while.
