still water in the middle of the park
Come in under the shade of the oaks and only then do you see the water. That's how the Gerês reservoir greets you, without announcing itself, kept by the slope as if it weren't for everyone.
Praia Fluvial Gerês Albufeira sits inside the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês, and that shows in everything: in the colour of the water, in the silence the pine and granite build around it, in the fact that the horizon is always dark green. It's not a beach for showing off. It's a place to be.
The bottom is clean, the water cold even in summer, and the scenery doesn't change whether it's early morning or late afternoon. If you happen to go on a weekday outside high season, you can have the place almost to yourself. It's one of the few inland beaches where silence still beats the speakers.
Terras de Bouro has this: it keeps its spots with some restraint. And the reservoir is grateful for it.
