Norpark

water with views of the Atlantic, inside the pines

There's a stone pine reserve here that's the largest in Europe. Inside it, in the Sítio da Nazaré, is where Norpark is wedged, a few metres from Praia do Norte. The contrast is exactly that: slides, water and the noise of children with the ocean below and the pine forest all around.

The view to the Atlantic isn't a brochure promise. The elevated position, already up on the headland, lets you see the sea even while you're waiting your turn on the slide. For anyone who only knows Nazaré from the packed summer beach down below, this part of the village has a different scale and a different rhythm.

The park has slides for adults and children, a semi-Olympic pool, giant jacuzzis at a constant 30°C and a pool just for the youngest. It's not a luxury park and it doesn't need to be: it's functional, well-located and has natural shade that makes a real difference on an August afternoon.

The Pinhal da Casa de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré is the context that changes everything. It's not some urban woodland or show garden: it's a reserve of real scale, surrounding the park on all sides and explaining the temperature difference you'll feel the moment you step in.

The Sítio, the upper part of Nazaré, has always worked as a counterweight to the beach chaos down below. From here Praia do Norte is a few steps away, and in winter it's where the waves arrive that put the name of the village on the global surf map. In August you get a different beach, different air, a different pace.
