the mountain summit got famous for a swing
1,205 metres. It's the highest point on the Serra da Lousã, on the line that separates the districts of Coimbra and Leiria. The radio-telecommunications masts are the first thing you see when you arrive.
The wooden swing is the second. It was put up by the 'Isto é Lousã' initiative and put the summit on social media. Almost any time the weather's good there's a queue. If you're going for the swing, you know what you're signing up for; the photo has a patience price tag.
The rest makes up for it. The view opens across two districts and on clear days you can make out the range continuing east towards the Estrela. You drive up from Lousã or from Castanheira de Pera; the last few kilometres are paved but in bad shape. If you're heading to the top, you can stop on the way at Talasnal and look up at the range you'll be dominating from above.
