Quinta Pedagógica dos Olivais

the countryside inside Lisbon, without leaving the city

There are chickens, there are goats, there's a donkey. You're in Lisbon, in Olivais, a few minutes from Parque das Nações. Quinta Pedagógica dos Olivais has been running for 30 years on a simple idea: bringing the rural world into the city, without pretending it's a real farm in the middle of the Alentejo.

The space is managed by the Câmara de Lisboa and entry is free, which explains why so many families from the surrounding neighbourhoods treat it as an extension of their home garden. It's not a zoo with exotic species or a theme park with attractions. It's a working farm, with livestock, vegetable plots and activities tied to agriculture and rural traditions.

The programme goes beyond watching animals. There are workshops on the bread-making cycle, traditional cookery sessions and activities for schools that have been coming back for generations. In April 2025 it completed three decades, with a commemorative exhibition that went through Ribeira das Naus. A crochet panel made with the community remained visible in the space as a mark of that anniversary.

If you live in Lisbon and have kids who have never touched a goat, this is the closest place where that happens with real context.
