Praia Fluvial Aldeia Ana de Aviz

the village dam, with no big pretensions

The Ribeira de Ana de Aviz isn't a river with a name on the tourist maps. It's a watercourse in the Pinhal Interior region that gained a dam and, with it, enough of a sheet of water for a village beach that works for real. Access is right at the entrance to Aldeia Ana de Aviz, a few kilometres from Figueiró dos Vinhos, with no big detours or driving adventures.

Praia Fluvial Aldeia Ana de Aviz has the typical profile of the municipal beaches in this part of the Pinhal: functional support facilities (bar, picnic area, toilet, first-aid post) and a local crowd that has little to do with summer routes. Whoever shows up knows the spot or came with someone who does.

What stays with you isn't the water, it's the context. You're in the heart of the schist, surrounded by slopes with the dense green of the pinewood and the crags that define this part of the area. Figueiró dos Vinhos has the Fragas de São Simão a few minutes away, which makes this territory have more substance than the isolated beach suggests.

the whole scene

  • the dammed stream: contained size, but controlled water and certified conditions
  • a local crowd, a calm feel, no resort movement
  • a bar and picnic area on site, the basics work
  • a handy starting point to explore the crags and the trails of the river valley
