the real river beach of the municipality, no artificial waves
The Ribeira de Pera runs through several spots in the municipality and is dammed at a stretch shaded by an old oak forest. There's no sand, it's new paving from a recent renovation, but the water is from the hills, with a stone riverbed and enough depth to actually swim. If you're looking for the real river beach of Castanheira de Pera in the literal sense, this is it, not the Praia das Rocas.
Poço da Corga is certified as an Accessible Beach and was named the Revelation River Beach of the Centro Region after a renovation costing around half a million euros. That translates to ramps, adapted toilets, a lifeguard during the bathing season, playground, a bar with terrace and a campsite right next door. It's well-organised without feeling clinical: the oak forest still does the shading work it always did.
The place grew around an old olive mill powered by the stream itself, now converted into a small museum (Lagar do Corga). If the water gets crowded and you want a break, pop in and see how olive oil was pressed centuries ago in the same watercourse where you've been swimming.
The Serra da Lousã closes in on all sides. This is the kind of river beach where you park, walk through the oak forest, and halfway there you can't hear the road anymore. The rest of the day is yours to do nothing.
