Praia Fluvial da Peneda Talhada

the rock that gives it the name also marks the landscape

A mass of stone rises from the bed of the Alva river up to about eighteen metres high. It's that vertical rock, cut straight up as the name suggests, that baptises the beach and defines what you see when you arrive. Peneda Talhada isn't just another river beach like the others in the area: that boulder marking the bank gives it a different scale.

It's in Secarias, in the Arganil area, on the left bank of the Alva. It's one of the newest bathing spots in the parish: opened as a river beach in 2024, after regeneration works of over one hundred and thirty thousand euros that included recovering two support buildings that had been sitting idle for about two decades. The result is a new bathing area in a place that already had an older presence.

The other beach in the same parish, the Cascalheira, is a few minutes away and plays another role: it's the fully equipped one, with a Blue Flag for nearly a decade, lifeguards and accessibility. Peneda Talhada is the more stripped-down alternative, without the same level of infrastructure, but with that rock that the Cascalheira doesn't have.

The Alva along this stretch runs between natural riverside banks. You come here more for the landscape than for the facilities, and that shifts the expectation you should bring.
