piódão has more inside than the square lets on
In the centre of Piódão, the tourist office and the museum share the same building. Same door, two things: orientation for new arrivals, and an exhibition to understand the village from the inside.
The permanent display is about 'how people lived here'. Artefacts and works that document the way of life of the village's people, and also how Piódão has been seen by those who've passed through. It's part of the Aldeias Históricas de Portugal network and is the context for what you're seeing outside.
Go before you head up through the lanes, not after. You come out with the landscape in context, and the schist stone stops being just a photo opportunity.
