Praia Fluvial do Souto do Rio

a river beach without fuss, somewhere between Águeda and the Caramulo

Cold water even at the height of summer. That's how the experience at the Praia Fluvial do Souto do Rio begins, where the river doesn't warm up to please anyone. You come, you swim, and you know straight away whether you're cut out for this or not.

The municipality of Águeda has several river parks scattered across its territory, and this beach fits that logic of making use of what the river offers without needing to go to the sea. The shade of the trees on the banks does the job that no sun umbrella can imitate, and the sandy area is the kind of place where you let time go by without guilt.

No big production here. The scene is exactly that: water, bank, and the company of those who have also found the place. It's in the Águeda area, in a municipality that knows it has good rivers and isn't embarrassed to use them. Turn off the road, leave the car, and follow the shade down to the water.

what you'll find

  • cold running water, even in August
  • natural shade on the banks
  • a simple sandy area, no excess structures
