Flagra is a discovery guide to Portugal. We bring together places to visit (river beaches, museums, viewpoints, monuments, gardens, and other points of interest) with practical information, maps, and routes to help you plan a trip.
The focus is Portuguese territory, from north to south, from coast to interior. Each place has its own page: how to get there, what to expect, opening hours where relevant, and links to nearby spots.
Editorial line
Flagra is an independent project of territorial curation. It's not breaking-news journalism, and it's not an automated aggregator: every place is picked, described, and reviewed by the editorial team.
Factual rigour. We check coordinates, access, opening hours, and conditions before publishing, and we fix things whenever someone flags an error or a change.
Independence. We don't publish sponsored content dressed up as editorial. When partnerships or paid content come along, they'll be clearly marked as such.
Source transparency. We list the sources used for each place (OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, official sites, on-the-ground visits) and credit the photographers.
No agenda. We don't have a political, religious, or sporting line. We treat places for what they are, without preconceived ideas about regions or communities.

How to contribute
Flagra grows with the people who use it. If you know a place that should be here, if you spotted an error in one that's already up, or if you have better photos to share, the suggestions form is open.
What we accept
- Suggestions for new places (name, location, brief note on why it's worth it)
- Corrections or additions to existing pages (hours, access, prices, contacts, facts)
- Your own photos, licensed to Flagra for publication
Important: photos shouldn't include identifiable people (faces, number plates, or anything else that could identify someone). It's a matter of image rights and data protection: we only publish images of the places themselves.
What we need from you
So we can reply or credit a photo properly, we ask for your name, email, and, for images, confirmation that you're the author and on what terms you're licensing it (free use, with credit, etc.). Without that explicit permission, we don't publish.
Anonymous suggestions are welcome too, but without an email we can't follow up or clear things up with you.
Sources and credits
Some of Flagra's content rests on open projects that deserve explicit credit:
OpenStreetMap. Coordinates, administrative boundaries, and part of the geographic information come from OpenStreetMap, under the ODbL licence. © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Wikipedia. Descriptive excerpts and historical information on some pages come from Wikipedia, under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. Where relevant, we link to the source article on the page itself.
OpenFreeMap. The interactive map at /mapa/ uses vector tiles from OpenFreeMap, a community-hosted open-source service, rendered in the browser with MapLibre GL JS.
Mapbox. The static maps published on place and route pages, and the automatic route calculation, are generated server-side with Mapbox technology.
Photos. Photos published on Flagra fall into three cases:
- Own or licensed to Flagra with transfer of rights become the property of Grind Software, Lda.
- Under Creative Commons licence: the rights stay with the respective authors. They're hosted on Flagra's servers for performance and availability, but they come with a caption identifying the author and a link to the original source.
- Other third-party photos (press, official communications, etc.) are published with the source identified, and the rights stay with the respective holders.
Terms of use
By using Flagra, you declare that you have read and accepted these terms.
1. Content and intellectual property
Flagra's texts, original maps, design, and code are the property of Grind Software, Lda. and are protected by national and international copyright legislation. Full or partial reproduction requires prior authorisation, except for short quotes with a reference to the source.
Photos produced by Flagra or licensed with transfer of rights are likewise the property of Grind Software, Lda.
Content from third parties, in particular OpenStreetMap data, Wikipedia excerpts, and photos published under Creative Commons or other licences, keeps the licences and rights of the respective authors, as indicated in Sources and credits and in each image caption.
The FLAGRA trademark is registered and may not be used without authorisation.
2. Liability for information
Information is published in good faith and reviewed periodically, but Flagra can't guarantee it's always up to date. Opening hours, access, visiting conditions, and restrictions change, sometimes without notice. Before travelling, especially to places with restricted access, we recommend confirming with the managing entity.
Flagra accepts no liability for damages, losses, or setbacks resulting from the use of the information published, including trips made based on coordinates, hours, or conditions that may have changed in the meantime.
Links to external sites are provided for convenience. Flagra doesn't control or take responsibility for the content of those sites.
3. Content submitted by users
When submitting a suggestion, correction, or photo through the form, the user:
- Warrants that the information is correct and doesn't infringe third-party rights;
- Grants Flagra the right to publish, edit, and adapt that content in the site's context;
- In the case of photos, declares being the author or having the author's permission, and states the terms of the licence.
Flagra reserves the right not to publish contributions it deems unsuitable, inaccurate, offensive, or in breach of third-party rights.
4. Service availability
Flagra may, at any time and without prior notice, alter, suspend, or discontinue part or all of the site, for technical, editorial, or other reasons. We aren't liable for temporary service interruptions.
5. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated to reflect changes to the site, the applicable law, or the third-party services we use. The version in force is always the one published on this page, with the last-updated date shown in the footer.
6. Applicable law
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. For the resolution of any dispute, the courts of the Vila do Conde district have jurisdiction, with express waiver of any other.
