wildlife, forest and a birthday party you didn't expect to find here
There's a biological park on the slopes of the Serra das Meadas, just a few kilometres from the centre of Lamego, and the first thing that catches you off guard is what it isn't: it isn't an urban zoo, it isn't a theme park. It's a space run by the municipality, with wildlife and flora from the territory, tucked into a forest setting that was already there before the park existed.
The walking route runs for about three kilometres and you do it on foot, with no motorised alternative. That changes the experience: the rhythm is set by the forest, not by a tourist visit. The Parque Biológico da Serra das Meadas has 22 years of activity behind it, which says something about its consistency within Lamego's cultural and educational offer.
The programming goes beyond the classic visit. There are workshops, seasonal events with their own identity (Halloween with children, Christmas in the Forest, the Environment Week), and an auditorium that hosts conferences and presentations. The park is, in practice, a living facility, not a place that just opens its doors.
If you're coming from Lamego and you've already done the Sé, the Museum and the tile panels, the Serra das Meadas gives you a way out into a completely different register, where what rules is what grows and what moves.
