where the river still belongs to those who live here
There's a bank in Braga where the Cávado really flows, far from the city's more touristy areas. Praia Fluvial da Ponte do Bico sits beside the road, with no fuss, on a stretch of the Cávado with a pebble bottom and banks of dense vegetation that close the horizon.
Access is direct and undramatic. Whoever shows up here is mostly from Braga, has known the spot since childhood and doesn't need to explain it to anyone. That gives the place a different character from the beaches on the itineraries: no performance, no posing.
The Cávado here has a wide, relatively calm profile at this point, with a bathing area neatly marked by the council and a blue flag in season. What stays with you is the scale: the river bigger than expected, the trees casting shade on the bank side and that sense that the city vanished even though you're so close to the centre of Braga.
